Message in a Cup

Messages and stories of learning in Footscray are collected and then written onto the insides of one hundred handmade blue cups. The cups are placed in Footscray during BluScray events to be found by people and taken home. The project gives voice to peoples experiences and understandings of learning and shares these ideas with others in the city of Footscray.

Message in a Cup is part of BluScray, a program of blue-themed arts and cultural events held throughout 2016 to celebrate Victoria University’s Centenary in collaboration with Maribyrnong City Council for the Footscray University Town initiative.
Drawing the Library
2015, Community project at Sunshine Library, Melbourne Victoria.
A community project using observational drawing and text to record a particular time and place, of the Sunshine Library in McCracken St.
The project is to make a series of observational drawings using the recycled papers found in the library as a base. The drawings will form a picture of Sunshine Library and the ways in which the community use the place. The concept is that by spending time drawing what you see in the library, you begin to notice other things, such as how people are using the place, how people interact with each other, what sort of things happen in the library and why people go there. As you draw, the other aspects, such as what you see around you, what you hear and your thoughts can be added to the picture by writing.
As the drawings are made, they will be blogged and at the end of the project they will be published into a book which will stay in the library, so you will be able to revisit them anytime you like. The drawings will also be made into a larger artwork in the library to celebrate the end of the project and the publishing of the book.
This project has been supported by the Brimbank City Council and Sunshine Art Spaces activation partnership funding.
